Time to Identify Your Goals and Make a Plan

Wow! 2017 certainly went out with a flurry of activity. The market continued surging upward, the Federal Reserve increased the federal funds rate by a quarter of a percent and the senate and house passed a unified version of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act that was subsequently signed into law by the President. This eventful finish capped a year filled with robust and often divisive political debate, extreme weather related circumstances, but still, solid economic growth and significant market gains in all the broad market averages. The S&P 500 finished with a total gain of 21.83% while the Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 28.11% and finally the Nasdaq 100 gaining the most had a total return of 32.99%. These impressive totals now represent the 9th consecutive year of positive returns. The S&P 500 is up almost 400% since March 9, 2009. Many believe the market is poised for a spectacular correction, while others believe it is now spring-loaded for several more years of robust growth. What should you be doing right now?
